Why there are so many

The Procurement Act 2023 centralised where notices are published. Almost every above-threshold UK contract now appears on Find a Tender, which is a genuine improvement on hunting across dozens of sites to discover that work exists at all.

It did nothing about where bids are submitted. Each buyer still chooses its own eSourcing platform, still runs its own supplier registration, and still sets its own document rules. So the finding got easier and the responding did not, and that split is the whole problem. It is not going away, because nothing in the Act requires a common submission route.

The practical consequence: you need to watch four boards, and you need an account on whichever platform sits behind the specific contract you want. Not all 67.

If you have no accounts at all

Start here, in this order

1. 1. Register on Find a Tender. It is free, it is the statutory home of UK notices, and the supplier record you create on the Central Digital Platform is increasingly reused elsewhere. Everyone needs this one.
2. 2. Add your nation's board. Contracts Finder for England and UK-wide central government, Public Contracts Scotland, or Sell2Wales. Scotland needs two accounts, because PCS advertises and PCS-Tender receives the bid.
3. 3. Register on a platform only when you have found the work. Wait until you have a live contract worth bidding for, then register on whichever platform that buyer uses. Do it as soon as you decide to bid rather than the day before the deadline, because account approval is not always instant.
4. 4. Get an accreditation only when a buyer asks for one. They carry annual fees and renewal dates, and paying for one speculatively is money spent ahead of any evidence you need it.
