How to search well

Search the way buyers write

  • Use the words in a contract title, not your own service names: “grounds maintenance”, not “landscaping solutions”.
  • Every word must appear, so start with one or two and add more only to narrow it down.
  • Buyers label work with CPV codes as well as words. If you are not sure which apply to you, the CPV codes finder suggests them.
  • Open tenders are only half the picture. Contracts ending in the next year are listed by month, so you can talk to a buyer before the next one is written.

Where tenders are published

Four portals, one search

UK public bodies publish on Find a Tender (larger contracts), Contracts Finder (smaller English contracts), Public Contracts Scotland and Sell2Wales. Most then run the bid itself on a separate eSourcing system with its own supplier account. The guide to UK tender portals explains which is which and where you need to register.

Questions

About the tender finder

Is the tender finder free?

Yes. Search as often as you like, with no account. It shows open UK public sector tenders and links each one to its official notice, where you read the documents and bid.

Where do the tenders come from?

Find a Tender, Contracts Finder, Public Contracts Scotland and Sell2Wales: the official portals where UK public bodies must publish their opportunities. Tender Radar collects them every weekday morning and the finder is refreshed every hour.

Why are some tenders missing from an area search?

An area search uses where the work is delivered, or the buyer's own location when the notice does not say. A notice with neither is left out of area searches but still appears when you search by words alone.

Can I get new tenders by email instead of searching?

Yes. Tender Radar's daily digest checks every new notice against your organisation's profile each weekday morning, scores how well each fits, and adds the contracts coming up for renewal in your market. It is free for 30 days, then £30 a month.
